Does the Bible talk about asexuality?

Asexuality is the condition of having no sexual desire for either gender. Asexuals may become aroused, but at a much lesser rate and degree than those with a defined sexual attraction. Asexuality is not specifically mentioned in the Bible.

The celibate life that would naturally result from asexuality is mentioned in the Bible. In 1 Corinthians 7:32-35, Paul explains that living a single life can be a blessing as the person can concentrate on serving the Kingdom of God instead of being concerned with earthly matters. Jesus touches on a subset of asexuality—the congenital eunuch—in Matthew 19:12. His guidance was to accept the situation as a blessing that divorce would never be a temptation.

There are only a handful of situations in which asexuality could lead to sin. If an asexual person agrees to marry, her lack of physical attraction for her husband does not absolve her of having a sexual relationship with him (1 Corinthians 7:3) unless he is in full agreement of having a celibate marriage. There is more to a healthy marital sex life than erotic feelings and physical fulfillment; sex goes a long way in developing relational intimacy as well. The other possibility for sin is if the asexual person also exhibits extreme androgyny. It is not biblical to dress and act in a way that others cannot tell what gender you are (Deuteronomy 22:5).

Asexuality is not sin. The vast majority of the time, it is not even a condition that needs to be "fixed." At the same time, it is perfectly acceptable to seek medical treatment. And if it's suspected that the asexual condition was caused by sexual abuse, counseling should definitely be sought. Not necessarily to "cure" the asexuality, but because God wants us to be free from the wounds and violence of our past.
