What if Christianity has gotten it wrong?

Quick answer

The reliability of God’s character, His Word, and His resurrection show us that Christianity is true. If Christianity has gotten it wrong, we are stuck in guilt and have no hope for the evil that clearly exists in the world, but if Christianity has gotten it right, then all those who reject Him for salvation will face eternal consequences.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY?

The world isn’t perfect. We can all agree with that. Bad things happen. Evil exists. Natural disasters occur. We do bad things. We feel guilt and shame. Bad things are done to us. If Christianity is wrong, then we have no hope for any of this to get better or even that it should be better. Christianity alone offers the certainty of salvation, not based on human effort but on God's grace through Jesus' resurrection. Christianity provides an explanation as to why the world is this way and provides a promise for how He is still good and in control and will one day restore all that isn’t the way it should be. Christianity tells us that God created the world to be good and that sin distorted and destroyed that. Sin also distorts and destroys our own lives. Stealing, lying, affairs, false judgment, and all other sin leads to negative consequences. Yet, God promised and provided the way for us to know He will restore and redeem all that was destroyed. He provided the way for us to be forgiven of our sins and to be transformed by His goodness. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, God made a way for redemption, offering hope in a broken world. His second coming is the fulfillment of that promise, where He will restore all things to His perfect design. Those who have trusted in Him will be saved, freed from sin, and live with Him forever in His kingdom. God’s character, the certainty of His Word, and the resurrection of Jesus confirm that Christianity has not gotten it wrong. The resurrection of Jesus is the strongest evidence for Christianity’s truth, as it is historically well-documented. If Christ had not risen, Christianity would have been easily disproven, yet His empty tomb and transformed disciples testify to the reality of His victory over death. If Christianity is true, then Christ’s victory over death guarantees our redemption and the future restoration of all things. Because He has risen, we can trust that our faith is secure, our sins are forgiven, and eternal life is assured.

IMPLICATIONS FOR TODAY

If Christianity were false, we would have no hope beyond this life, and our faith would be meaningless. If He did not rise, then we are still in our sins, separated from God, and those who died believing in Him are lost forever. But because God is true, His Word endures, and Christ’s resurrection is a historical reality, we can be confident that our faith is not in vain. The resurrection is not just a religious claim—it is the foundation of our hope, proving that Jesus is who He said He is and that He has conquered death.

The resurrection of Jesus is one of the most well-documented events of ancient history. Even skeptical scholars agree on key historical facts: Jesus was crucified under Pontius Pilate, His tomb was found empty, His disciples were radically transformed from fearful men into bold proclaimers of His resurrection, and hundreds of people claimed to have seen Him alive after His death (1 Corinthians 15:3–8). The earliest records of these events date back to within a few years of the crucifixion, making legendary development unlikely. Roman and Jewish authorities could have stopped Christianity from spreading by producing Jesus' body, yet they never did. Instead, the apostles, who had nothing to gain and everything to lose, endured persecution and martyrdom rather than deny what they had seen.

The Christian faith is grounded in reality, not wishful thinking. It assures us that every promise God has made—our forgiveness, our future resurrection, and eternal life with Him—will come to pass. Rather than being pitied, we have every reason to rejoice because our hope in Christ is secure for eternity. In a world filled with uncertainty and deception, we can stand firm, knowing that our faith rests on the unshakable truth of God’s Word and the risen Christ. Because of this assurance, we can live boldly for Christ and allow others to see the truth of Christianity.
