Why don't all Christians have a consistently biblical worldview?

There are many reasons a Christian may not have a consistently biblical worldview. First, a Christian may be ignorant of what the Bible teaches regarding important issues of faith. If a person does not know what the Bible teaches, it is hard to live according to its teachings.

Some Christians selectively obey God's Word. In other words, some beliefs are accepted while others are rejected. This may be due to convenience, personal sinful behaviors, the approval of others, fear of rejection, possible persecution, or other reasons. Regardless of the motivation, to selectively believe one part of the Bible's teachings and not another reveals the need for change to more fully obey the truth of God's Word.

Other Christians are deceived by the lies of this world. Just as Adam and Eve were deceived by the serpent in the Garden of Eden, many Christians today are deceived by spiritual influences that have led them to false beliefs and an inconsistent worldview.

Some Christians do not have a consistently biblical worldview due to giving up hope. Doubt, discouragement, and depression have the power to cause even a mature Christian to make unwise choices. Even the apostle Peter denied knowing Jesus on the night of His arrest. However, despite Peter's inconsistency, Jesus used Him as the leader of the apostles and as a great influence in the start of the church (Acts 2:14-41).

Many Christians simply do not have a consistently biblical worldview because it is difficult. To know what God's Word teaches about important areas of life requires much study as well as the self-control to apply principles to real-life situations. In our fast-paced society, there is the temptation to resist goals that require substantial investments of energy, effort, and resources. Because developing and living a consistent Christian worldview is difficult, many have chosen to either compromise or to live in apathy.

While there are many reasons a person may not have a consistently biblical worldview, there is one clear way to improve—studying Scripture. Second Timothy 2:15 teaches, "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth." Psalm 1:1-2 likewise observes, "Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night."
